We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God and inerrant in the original writings.
We believe that our purpose in life is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30). We believe that our mission in this life is to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10), to go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything which Jesus commanded (Matthew 18:19-20).
We believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God. We believe in the gospel message, as the apostle Paul summarised in 1 Corinthians 15:1-7: “….that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time… Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me, also, as to one abnormally born. (NIV)”
We believe in the resurrection of the dead. We believe that God’s love is perfect and unfailing (see 1 Corinthians 13:4-8) and that he is calling each and every person “out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9 NIV) We believe in salvation by grace and not by works.
We believe that God’s church is to be a church of all nations. We have members from all over the UK, Ireland and at least 12 other countries! We welcome all nations, races, aliens and strangers as we believe Jesus would, as we live and grow in this green and pleasant land where God has us planted.
We believe in every disciple of Jesus having a personal ministry to the poor and needy around them, just as Jesus did (Jeremiah 22:16, Mark 1:32-34). We are very proud of our close association with the global not-for-profit charity, HOPE worldwide, and its UK subsidiary, HOPE worldwide UK. Our local congregation supports the Arias Home of H.O.P.E., in Chennai, India (a shelter for women and children who are victims of AIDS), in addition to servicing a number of local community institutions, such as the Selly Park and Amberley Court Care Homes. Our annual Women’s Day event raises funds for a different local women’s charity each year.
We believe in the concept of discipleship, that each member has an obligation out of love for God to become a supporting ligament, committed to other members of the church, and help the body of Christ to grow, be strengthened and be built up in love (Ephesians 4:16). We would love to be known to God as a church that lives out Acts 2:42-47 and John 13:34-35. We know that we are weak and that it is God alone who takes hold of us and makes us into something wonderful (Romans 8:28).
