What comes to mind when you hear the term Sunday Christian?
There is no such thing in the Bible.
Acts 2:42-47 NIV
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. [43] Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. [44] All the believers were together and had everything in common. [45] They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. [46] Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, [47] praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
1) Daily Encouragement
Acts 2:46 NIV
Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
A lot of the people that got baptised that day probably were not from Jerusalem. They were there to celebrate Passover. In the first century, they lived much more communal. Today we live more isolated. However, if we truly want to meet up and be connected then there will be a way to do so.
Hebrews 3:12-13 NIV
See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. [13] But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
This passage uses strong language. What does it mean to encourage daily? We have to be in contact and call one another (out). We call each other to God’s standard which is the Bible.
Proverbs 27:17 NIV
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
We need to assess what some needs encouragement in.
1 Thessalonians 5:14 NIV
And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
We are all in different places. What category do I fall into?
Daily encouragement challenge: Seek and provide daily encouragement this week.
2) Daily Evangelism
Acts 2:47 NIV
praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Daily people became Christians. Because of who they were they influenced the people around them. There is nothing better to share than our relationship with God. Tha same thing we just read in Acts 2:47 is what kept happening throughout the history of the early church.
Acts 16:5 NIV
So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.
Acts 19:9-10 NIV
But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus. [10] This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.
- How is my joy?
- How is my gratitude?
- How is my urgency?
‟Lord, help me to get one more.” – Desmond Doss
